Paper Bridge

Our bridge design was a great challenge to figure out how to build it. We thought about tabs that would hold the bridge together and then we thought about creating holes for the tabs to sit inside of. If we could do anything different I think we should create a better supporting block so the the bridge wouldn't touch the table. Brainstorming really helped when we were creating a solution to this problem. It helps to get people to think of everything and every aspect of the the problem. We didn't really get the chance to test. The only real testing we could do was I would try to pull the bridge apart and it wouldn't come apart so we thought that it would be strong enough. To have a successful team you would have to be willing to work together and have an open mind. It's hard to work in a team that won't collaborate to create a solution. Teams work together and if you don't work together there isn't a team. 

Self designer

I use a program called Google Sketchup to creat this design. This is a replica of my high school gymnasium that I created to see what I am capable of. This shows my way of technical thinking and design ability. 

Goals for this class:

•I hope to gain better knowledge of the design process. 

•I hope that this class helps me become more creative. 

•I hope that this class helps me be able to take a drawing on paper and take it to the computer. 

Product Improvement: Cake Server

Product:

For this project my partner and I decided to improve the very simple cake server. We talked about it and decided that we both have trouble when it comes to taking the a piece of cake away from the cake and even cutting the right size. That is why we decided to create an all in one cake server. 

Design:

So when we designed this product for improvement we wanted it to be very convenient for everyone who uses it. We didn't want the user to have to use twenty different utensils when they cut cake, obviously I'm over exaggerating, but you can see what I mean. So for this we decided to add a hinged triangular citing device to the basic cake server. It would swing down and cut the cake and as you pull the piece out it holds the cake in place. The hinge woul have the same concept as the hinge on a plastic pencil box.

Process Statement:

1: The factors we considered for changing our product was what problem is there with the normal product and what would make it better for the user. 

2: It is important to document the brainstorming process, because it shows that the idea that came out of your head was yours and it puts a time stamp on it when you document it. This helps when you want to prove to someone that you created this idea. 

3: The purpose of sketching your idea is to get all the ideas in your head down before you forget it. It also is a way to see what might not work with your original design. 

4: I think that when we presented our idea that we weren't fully prepared. We didn't have a real idea of what we were going to say. If we had the chance to do it again I would want to write out what I would say before I presented.
